Should blog links from e-commerce site be nofollowed?

You are running a blog that helps to build your brand awareness and drive traffic to your e-commerce site. Should you use rel="nofollow" on links going from the e-commerce site to the blog?

The answer is, “it depends” and may vary based on your e-commerce site strength and your market.

In principle, you should nofollow all links you don’t want to pass PageRank and/or Link Reputation to. Should this include your blog? Let’s see…

On one hand, it’s a good idea to concentrate most PR to your e-commerce pages as these are the ones you want to rank the highest. So, from this point of view, it’s good to nofollow the blog link(s).

On the other hand, however, the question is whether your blog can rank and deliver sufficient amounts of traffic even without the link power of your e-commerce site. If the answer to the last question is “yes”, nofollow away.
