Adding more pages to e-commerce sites

How can you meaningfully increase the number of pages on your e-commerce site, when you sell only a limited number of products?

Search engines love huge sites. So, from SEO point of view, the larger your site, the better, and adding more pages to your “money site” should be an important priority for you.

But, how to build your site to 1,000’s of pages when the total number of products you sell is only a couple of hundred? You’ve got many options:

  1. More products. Are you sure there aren’t any more products out there that you can sell? How about new suppliers, manufacturers, drop-shippers, etc.? Do some research and you might be surprised by what you will find.
  2. Shopping guides. While only a few pages in length, good shopping guides add tremendous value to your visitors and are a natural link magnet, too.
  3. Blog. By regularly posting about the latest developments in your industry accompanied by your own commentary, you are not only adding more pages to your site, but also building your reputation as an expert in your field. Additionally, good blogs often have large and loyal followings and many of your readers are likely to end up being your customers.
  4. Forum.  Forums are among the most effective ways to build user-contributed content. Your options here are limited only by your imagination.
  5. Articles. Publishing your own “how-to” articles, inviting others to contribute articles or re-publishing articles from publicly available sources is a great way to add more pages to your site. (Note: when re-publishing other people’s articles, be sure to preface them with your own commentary. This not only helps to build your reputation, but also increases the uniqueness of your pages and avoids any possible duplicate content penalties.)
  6. Other. Basically, you should consider anything that adds value to your visitors, builds your brand and/or increases your sales/conversions/profits.

Finally, if search engine optimization is your only sought-after benefit, keep in mind that “your” pages hosted on other sites (think article marketing, press releases, etc.) are beneficial, too.
