Longer domain name registration better?

Do search engines give preference to domain names registered for longer periods of time. Would, all things being equal, a domain name registered for 10 years rank higher than a domain name registered for only 1 year?

The theory is that the more years a domain name is registered for, the less likely it is to host a spammy site. While this assumption is correct, I don’t believe the length of domain name registration has any impact on the site’s ability to rank.

Personally, I have not seen any evidence that domains that are registered for longer periods of time would be looked upon more favorably by any of the search engines.
